Uruguayan court investigates irregular export of books to Venezuela
El Universal: A Uruguayan court requested information from Colombia and Panama related to a reportedly irregular millionaire export of books and maps by a Uruguayan company to Venezuela, said Ricardo Perciballe, the prosecutor in the case.
Apliser SA exported to Venezuela the so-called "cartographic set" at a cost of $32 million, but the actual value of the material was estimated at USD 500,000.
"We have asked information from Venezuela, Colombia and Panama related to this export. There are persons from those countries linked to the operation," Perciballe told AP, without providing further details.
The transaction took another twist when Ruperto Long, a senator for the Uruguayan opposition party Partido Nacional, reported that the company which began operations last year was ranked 21st among the biggest exporters in the first half of 2009.
