Venezuelan government occupies and expropriates Venezuela sugar mill
El Universal: The national government resolved on Wednesday the temporary occupation and subsequent expropriation of Venezuela sugar mill, located in western Zulia state, reported Minister of Agriculture & Lands Elias Jaua.
The top official told state-run TV channel Venezolana de Television that the sugar mill had applied for temporary shutdown at the Labor Ministry. However, it did not wait for the ministry reply and closed its doors, leaving behind more than 1,000 jobless.
As a result, upon prior notice to President Hugo Chavez, the Executive branch of government enforced the Organic Law on Food Security and Sovereignty and the Law on Defense of People in the Access to Goods and Services, Jaua elaborated.
For his part, Food Minister Felix Osorio promised to act accordingly to recover sugar cane production and growing at the sugar mill.
