Health Minister Mantilla confirms 12 cases of influenza AH1N1 in Venezuela

El Universal: The Minister of Health, Jesus Mantilla, said late on Sunday to the state-run network Venezolana de Television (VTV) that there are 12 confirmed cases of AH1N1 in Venezuela. Apart from the four patients detected last week, in the central state of Miranda and a passenger coming from Brazil, there are other three infected people in the eastern states of Bolivar and Anzoategui.

The number of infected patients has already reached 12, but the situation of the remaining five patients was not detailed by the top health official, in terms of their profiles and the geographical location of the cases.

In Ciudad Bolivar, the capital of the state of Bolivar, a two year-old girl, who recently returned with her parents from the United States, became the first confirmed case in the state of Bolivar.

The president of the Institute of Public Health (ISP), Ana Gineth Morales, reported the case. She also said: "The girl is in isolation."  They entered the country on May 31 and, three days later, she began to have flu symptoms. "Her family reported the case, and health experts were sent to the home of the patient, took a sample and sent it to the National Hygiene Institute Rafael Rangel (INH), to be analyzed. Each suspected case is isolated and the patient is treated with oseltamivir phosphate.

In the city of Puerto La Cruz, state of Anzoategui, northeast Venezuela, there are two confirmed cases of A H1N1, according a report provided by the Governor, Tarek William Saab. He said late on Sunday that the infected people are under strict medical supervision. Saab said that they were allegedly infected by a person coming from Panama and they are members of a family."

The cases were detected by authorities in Urbaneja municipality, at the Municipal Hospital of Lecheria. According to reports, the infected persons were two women: a teenager and a 20-year old woman. The authorities have contacted the passengers who took the same flight and ground connections.

Our editorial statement reads:
VHeadline.com Venezuela is a wholly independent e-publication promoting democracy in its fullest expression and the inalienable right of all Venezuelans to self-determination and the pursuit of sovereign independence without interference. Our stance is decidedly pro-governance (defined as being contrary to anarchy) and pro-government to the extent that we support all and any government policies aimed at consolidating and improving the living conditions and future prosperity of ALL Venezuelans, regardless of race, color or creed. We also seek to shed an international spotlight on nefarious practices and corruption which, for decades, has strangled this South American nation's development and progress. In every respect VHeadline Venezuela's declared editorial bias is most definitely pro-Constitutional, pro-Democracy and pro-VENEZUELA.
