Roadmap for the future of Tehran-Caracas relations to be drafted
Fars News Agency (FNA): Visiting Iranian politico-economic delegations led by Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki that is in Venezuelan capital city currently for evermore expansion and strengthening of bilateral ties proposed drafting and signing of a roadmap for future of Tehran-Caracas relations. The proposal was presented during a Friday evening meeting between Iranian foreign minister and his accompanying delegation with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro at the hotel where the Iranian delegation resides.
The presenter of the proposal, Deputy Foreign Minister in Economic Affairs Mohsen Talaie was quoted by the Islamic republic news agency during the meeting, "Today we are experiencing a situation that the continuation of the two countries' relations is in need of comprehensive roadmap for at least the next ten years." Referring to such topics and issues as the current international conditions, the present status of Tehran-Caracas relations and the long term objectives of the two countries' leaders for bilateral ties, he said, "These are important issues that necessitate the drafting of a roadmap for the future of our bilateral ties."
The Iranian deputy foreign minister further stressing the significance of the presented proposal, expressed hope that the Venezuelan part would approve of it keeping in mind the near future state visit of the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez of the Islamic Republic of Iran, that he said would be a good opportunity for signing the strategic documents.
Mottaki, too, stressed the importance of the proposal, regarding it as an appropriate move aimed at further expansion of bilateral relations in mid-term future, adding the draft of this document needs to be prepared without wasting any moment, even during the remaining hours of the Iranian delegation's visit of Caracas a first step towards materializing the strategic objective. The exact timing of President Chavez' upcoming state visit was not stated during the meeting though. Our country's foreign minister also proposed during the meeting that joint headquarters of the two countries Shared Fund and Bank can be established in Tehran and that the matter can be pursued and finalized without delay during President Chavez' upcoming state visit.
Mottaki who is on a tour of a number of African and Latin American countries arrived in Venezuela early Friday morning atop a politico-economic delegation after visiting and conferring with the presidents, parliament speakers, and foreign ministers of such countries as Mali, Mauritania and Brazil. The Iranian top diplomat said after his meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart that he is also scheduled to meet President Chavez and that country's parliament speaker.
The next leg of Mottaki's African-Latin American tour before heading for Tehran would be Gambia in Western Africa.
