1. Venezuela is a democracy: the majority decides even though it only has less than 200 thousands votes more.
2. Yes, in Venezuela we have a President that governs for the majority of the Venezuelans. President Chavez accepted his defeat.
3. It was established that President Chavez does not control the public powers in Venezuela. It is time to make that clear in the Venezuelan and international media.
4. The impartiality and professionalism of the Venezuelan electoral authority.
5. Dead people and ghosts do not vote in Venezuela as some in the opposition have claimed. This was confirmed as soon as they accepted the audits that were made to the results.
6. Abstention does not win elections. It was 25% in December of last year and Chavez won. In these elections abstention was higher than 40% and, who won? The opposition!
7. “Chavismo” still is the largest political force in the country. The opposition’s victory would have been impossible without one or two drops of “chavismo."
8. The only losers are the violent: Alvarez Paz, Pena Esclusa, Hermann Escarra, Juan Fernandez and his “gente," and the bunch of experts living in Washington and in Miami that love themselves more than they love their country.
9. In Venezuela there is still only one significant and respected political leader: Hugo Chavez Frias. The President accepted a victory of the opposition which was achieved with less than 2% of difference. I can assure you that no one on this side will cry out that there was a fraud. On the other hand, it has been more than a year since Manuel Rosales, the opposition presidential candidate, accepted a defeat by more than 20 points. Nowadays there are still “experts” of the opposition that, ignoring what their “leader” said, continue to publish “studies” about the supposed fraud.
10. Let’s be proud of ourselves. Yes, in our country there are people with integrity. Jorge Rodríguez, the Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is one of them. Before the results were made public, he recognized that it was a close call and made calls for the respect of the results. God only knows how many innocent lives were saved by his attitude. Base on this, it is important to also give credit to Teodoro Petkoff and Manuel Rosales. They also saved many lives with their brave stance against the violent in December of 2006.
Besides the people that act in their capacities as leaders, let’s congratulate ourselves the so called followers. This was a democratic electoral experience, in general magnificence, where the violent were pushed to the side. The ones that support the government accept a narrow result against. I am sure that this will bring back to our society some of the innocence that was stolen by the promoters of the “vacuum” of power, the “legitimate” military disobedience and the “civic” strike.
