Venezuela stunned by murder of 3 kidnapped youngsters and their chauffeur
VHeadline.com News Editor Patrick J. O'Donoghue writes: The murder of three Venezuelan-Canadian boys and their chauffeur has caused consternation and protests throughout Venezuela and follows in the wake of the murder of Italian-Venezuelan businessman, Filippo Sindoni last week.
Interior & Justice (MIJ) Minister Jesse Chacon has confirmed that bodies found in Yare (Miranda) are those of the Faddoul brothers and chauffeur, Miguel Rivas.
- The boys were kidnapped on February 23, as they were being driven to school.
The kidnappers used the now familiar police road block mode to abscond the boys.
Chacon says there are no words that can express the government's grief to the Faddoul Diab and Ribas Guerra families for such an abominable crime and he has called on Venezuelans to work together to solve this kind of crime.
The Minister admits that he broke the news to Mr. John Faddoul yesterday afternoon about the identity of the bodies, adding that the Police Detective Branch (CICPC) is continuing its investigations to find the murderers and bring them to justice.
John Faddoul is Canadian-born but emigrated to Venezuela 25 years ago marrying a Venezuelan citizen.
According to some sources, the kidnappers had demanded a $4.5 million ransom for John Faddoul (17), Kevin Faddoul (13) and Jason Faddoul (12).
Hard-line opposition groups are attempting to cash in on the tragedy organizing a sympathy vigil outside the boy's home but the family has asked that they be left in peace.
Meanwhile, Primero Justicia has taken the lead, organizing a protest outside the MIJ Ministry, arguing that they do not aim to make political capital out of the current state of personal insecurity and want the government to declare a national emergency.
