Ultimas Noticias editor: something's a-brewing in Venezuela
Las Ultimas Noticias editor, Eleazar Diaz Rangel says he's certain that something is a foot in Venezuela ... "there are too many signs causing us to suppose that there are people planning something in the coming weeks when Venezuela celebrates 2 things stipulated in the Constitution and more or less agreed to after negotiations between the government and opposition on May 27, namely, signature campaigns for recall referendums, one against President Chavez Frias and another against opposition National Assembly deputies ... the democratic majority of both sides are prepared to accept the results."
Then there are others, who want short-cuts using violence.
Government bench deputies supplied taped conversations, one implicating Confederation of Trade Unions (CTV) president, Carlos Ortega and another featuring self-exiled former Federation of Chambers of Industry & Commerce (Fedecamaras) president, Carlos Fernandez.
Diaz Rangel says charges that the phrases heard on both tape conversation were "taken out of context" do not ring true and both men have NOT denied the conversations. "The problem is that both men have a record ... they led the 62-day national stoppage."
The other curious sign is reflected in an editorial published by a national broadsheet alleging that "investigations lead to think ... sectors egged on by the presidential entourage will undertake actions ... to create an atmosphere of terrorism and chaos during the government signature campaign."
The El Ultimas Noticias editor argues that these opinions have not been backed up by any hard facts and the newspaper has not reported any stories backing its editorial assertions ..."very strange."
